Instructions to the Traveler

The room rate is $77.00 [double or single occupancy].  This includes a very nice buffet breakfast.  On a space available basis, the hotel will honor our room rate for two days prior to the main event.  Any days after the conference will be difficult to obtain because of heavy booking for that weekend in May.

Join us for key leader presentations on Warrior Care issues and important updates on benefits and issues that concern all chaplains – whether active military, Veterans Affairs, or retired.

MCA National Executive Committee members and Veterans Affairs Chaplain Field Leadership Council members should arrive on Sunday, 1 May unless they are local commuters.  Both groups will convene early Monday morning.  All other participants should arrive not later than Monday, 2 May.

Registration begins at Noon and continues until 4 PM.  Then join us Monday late afternoon for a Joint Welcome Reception from 4 to 5:30 PM.  We are looking forward to your participation for this third bi-annual joint meeting.

The US Army Chaplain Corps Regimental Association sponsored the 5th Biennial Reunion of the Army chaplaincy family. Held in Denver, Colorado on 8-11 September, it brought together former and retired chaplains, chaplain assistants of each Component, DREs and others who serve, or have served the Army chaplaincy. The theme was “Honoring the Legacy of the Army Chaplaincy”, and highlighted  the Regimental Dining Out on Friday evening the 10th, with the dramatic presentation of little-known stories of WWII Army chaplains, as well as a “first person” account of a survivor of the Dorchester sinking and “the rest of the story”.

All military chaplains and their family members were invited to attend. Consult the USACCRA web site at www.chaplainregiment.org.

Chaplain Gunhus speaking to MCA and Veterans Affairs chaplain leaders about mentoring new chaplains

Last May, Chaplain Gunhus circulated an update to a vast network of prayer intercessors. The link below connects with that letter as published in the MCA’s Fall 2010 issue of The Military Chaplain. 

At present, Chaplain Gunhus is particularly active with the Guideposts ministry to the military.  He continues to mentor countless military chaplains as well as civilian clergy at all stages of their careers.  Chaplain Gunhus is a Life Member of the MCA, former National Executive Committee member, and ongoing consultant on strategic ministry.

We join Chaplain Gunhus and his family in thanksgiving to our merciful and faithful God for the healing care provided throughout many challenging months since November 2008.

Chaplain Gunhus’ Fourth Update – 22 May 2010

Chaplain (Captain) Dale A. Goetz, U. S. Army, died in Afghanistan Monday morning, 30 August.  He was one of five fatalities from a roadside bomb attack during a convoy in the Kandahar Province.

Chaplain Goetz was commissioned in 2004 and endorsed by the American Council of Christian Churches. He is survived by his wife Christy and three sons–Landon, Caleb, and Joel.  Please hold the Goetz family as well as his unit in prayers for their consolation.

Chaplain Goetz is the first chaplain to be killed in a war zone since 1970.
